Sardar Singh's winner in the 3rd quarter gave India closely-fought 2-1 win over Ireland in their second match of the Six Nations tournament on Tuesday. Roelant Oltmans' side had handed over an early lead to their opponent, however, goals from Talwinder Singh and Sardar helped them get over the line.

Ireland took the lead in the 4th minute with Kyle Good finding the back of the net. India pushed hard for an equalizer, but they had to wait till the second quarter for it. The Men in Blue earned a penalty corner in the 19th minute and Talwinder Singh was at hand to turn in a rebound, after the goalkeeper made a good save. That was the last action of what turned out to be a pretty eventful first half.

The goal gave India the confidence they required after the thrashing they received at the hands of Germany in their opening encounter. They came out in the second half with much more positive intent and captain Sardar Singh gave India the lead, for the first time in the tournament, with a cleverly deflected goal in the 32nd minute.

The Indian defence managed to protect their slim lead in the final quarter, and earned a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Irish side. India will now face New Zealand in their next game on Thursday.
