PKL 2019 | It was important for youngsters to get the moral boosting win, says Ran Singh
Tamil Thalaivas skipper Ran Singh after breaking their 14-match winless streak said that the win was really important for the youngsters in the team as they have been working hard and the win will help in boosting their confidence. Tamil Thalaivas won against Jaipur with a scoreline 35-33.
There were two matches on Monday and even though none of them had any teams which went into the Top 6 they were interesting encounters. Tamil Thalaivas faced a mighty Jaipur Pink Panthers who started well but lost track in the middle of the tournament. The Thalaivas emerged victorious with the same point difference (2) with which they lost against the Panthers in their first meeting this season.
The Thalaivas looked better in defence as compared to their opponents as they scored 13 points whereas the Panthers managed to score only 9. The young defenders of Tamil Thalaivas left a mark on the match as well as V. Ajith Kumar with another super 10.
“Extremely important. We have been hard at work to get this result. We lost the game against U.P. Yoddha due to a few errors. We made errors today as well, but we held our nerve at the end to win the match. We have a lot of youngsters on our roster, so it was important for them to get that morale-boosting win. The coach has worked tirelessly and that has resulted in us winning this match,” Ran Singh said while answering on the importance of the win in the post-match press conference.
The other match featured Telugu Titans and Gujarat Fortunegiants and even though Gujarat won by 10 points it wasn’t an easy win. The Titans were leading when the first half ended but Gujarat were able to catch up and an excellent performance by Sonu ensured that they get to the win easily once they got the initial lead. Despite a good performance, Siddharth Desai was unable to help his team get to the win as their defence wasn’t up to the mark in the second half.
“My error against their defence was a big moment in the match. I was tackled against a defence of five and in the very next raid Sonu scored two. That is where we lost control over proceedings,” Siddharth Desai explained.
