PKL 2019 | Parvesh Bhainswal was exceptional in second half, opines Sunil Kumar
In spite of the loss against Telugu Titans, Gujarat skipper Sunil Kumar is of the opinion that defender Parvesh Bhainswal was exceptional in the second half yesterday. Telugu Titans’ assistant coach Jagdish Kumble mentioned that there might be some pressure to perform in the home leg on the teams.
Gujarat Fortunegiants succumbed to the second consecutive defeat at home as they went down to Telugu Titans on Sunday. Although the raiders failed to put up a strong show, the defence line up was taken care of Parvesh Bhainswal who ended up with seven points from eight attempts. Skipper Sunil Kumar, who plays as the right cover, heaped praise on Bhainswal for the superb show in the defence.
“Parvesh Bhainswal wasn’t at his best before half-time but he was exceptional in the second period. Their raiders weren’t allowed too many points in the second half. If our raiders had capitalised then, we could have won this match,” Sunil said at the press conference.
On the other hand, this was the first win for Telugu Titans and their assistant coach Jagdish Kumble said that the pressure of performance was not on them and the Hyderabad-based franchise managed to capitalise on the pressure on the Gujarat side.
“Every team in VIVO Pro Kabaddi wants to do well in their home leg. Winning in the home leg gives a team a psychological advantage. We were not up to the mark in our home leg. Maybe the other teams are feeling the pressure to perform there as well. Gujarat Fortunegiants were coming into this match with three losses in their previous games and a lot of expectations. So the pressure was not on us, it was them, and we capitalised. That was our success,” Kumble explained after the game.
