FIH Pro Hockey League | India register another win against Germany, stay top of the points table
The Indian men's hockey team registered yet another win at the FIH Pro League 2021-22, after beating Germany 3-1 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha on Friday. Sukhjeet Singh, Varun Kumar, and Abhishek scored for India while Anton Boeckel scored the only goal for Germany.
This means that India added three more points, to reach 27 points in 12 games, and consolidate their position at the top of the points table. Meanwhile, Germany remains distant second with 17 points in 10 matches. As far as the match is concerned, India enjoyed lion's share of the possession.
The young team kept on building the attacks from both the flanks, while Germany's defense had to work extra time. Although there were a few circle penetrations from the latter as well, they did not pose any threat to the Indians.
While there were no goals scored in the first quarter, India showed tremendous control throughout. Come the second quarter, India took the lead. A pass from Nilakanta Sharma helped Sukhjeet Singh get India's first goal of the day.
India kept on attacking the German goalpost, but the next success came only in the 41st minute when Varun Kumar converted a penalty corner. Meanwhile, Germany also managed to score a goal towards the end of the quarter.
After being reduced to 10-men in the last quarter, the Indian team kept up their attacks, getting their third goal in the 54th minute.
Now India will play their remaining matches of the tournament in June.
