Chennai City FC to start pre-season in Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup
Chennai City FC fans would get to see their full first team for the first time this season when their side would compete in the 2019 Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup in Bangladesh. Currently having their base in Chennai, the club is planning to move to Coimbatore from the first of next month.
The Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup would also be featuring India clubs like Mohun Bagan apart from Chennai City and one team each from Nepal and Maldives. The tournament has been scheduled to take place from October 19 to 30.
After fielding mostly their domestic talents in the 129th edition of the Durand Cup, Chennai City would finally field their full strength squad including its foreign recruits. The tournament would be having two groups of four teams each with a round-robin stage. It would be followed by the top two team from each group progressing to the semifinals and final.
Chennai City FC could see the likes of Bangaldeshi club Dhaka Abahani apart from sides from Nepal and Maldives being their opponents in the AFC competition and the I-League title-holder would have a good warm-up session in that regard.
“This is the first international tournament we will be playing and it will be a good preparation for the AFC competitions next year,” said CCFC owner Rohit Ramesh, reported Sportstar.
