Manchester United legend Gary Neville has revealed that Manchester City will regret not signing Harry Maguire this summer. The former Leicester City center-back was linked with a move to the Cityzens, but Manchester United ended up signing him for a world-record sum this summer.

Neville believes that Manchester City will rue not signing Harry Maguire this summer, with the Cityzens stepping out of the race for the former Leicester City defender. Maguire, who eventually left for Manchester United in a record move, has become a key man for the Red Devils and has even started all four Premier League games so far.

Manchester City, on the other hand, have already lost Aymeric Laporte to a knee injury and the former Athletic Bilbao center-back has already undergone surgery. While details as to how many games he will miss are yet to filter through, Neville believes that Maguire’s presence would have made all the difference.

“If Laporte is out for a long period of time, I think it will cost City points. He is a dominant centre-back. He is a brilliant player, Laporte. I just look at it and think it’s a real worry. Maguire would have been ideal. I think Manchester United did really well to get him, and I’m surprised City didn’t go with them to get him – maybe they did and maybe they pulled out with the money or whatever it was,” Neville told Sky Sports.

"I just think Kompany leaving, he was an old-fashioned, throw your head at it centre-back in both boxes. When you go to certain grounds in the Premier League and you have seen it today when balls are flying into the box, Kompany [would be] stood tall. That’s the one downer out of the weekend for Manchester City,” concluded the former Red Devil.
