Intercontinental Cup | My next job is to seal place in 23 man squad, says Kamaljit Singh
Kamaljit Singh has stated that his next job is to make it to the final list of the 23 players ahead of the Intercontinental Cup which will be held in Ahmedabad from July 7. Kamaljit also said that if the team performs well then they will also see more spectators coming to cheer them in the stadium.
Kamaljit is the youngest of the three goalkeepers in the Indian team’s reckoning at the moment. The custodian had made into the Indian squad for the first time during the SAFF Championship held in Dhaka in 2017. He is in the senior camp and yet to play for the senior national side which already had Gurpreet Singh Sandhu as the first-choice keeper. However, the FC Pune City custodian has set his target to make it to the final 23 of the Indian team very soon ahead of the upcoming four-nation Intercontinental Cup.
“My next job is to seal a place in the final list of 23 for the forthcoming Hero Intercontinental Cup. The tournament is a great opportunity to increase the sport's popularity in Gujarat,” Kamaljit told AIFF media team.
"Off the field, both Gurpreet and Amrinder are like my elder brothers. I refer to them as 'paaji.' The three of us have a great relationship. Off the pitch we gel well, and on the pitch, we work hard and push each other to the limit."
The four-nation tournament in Ahmedabad will see defending champions India play against Tajikistan, DPR Korea and Syria. Kamaljit is of the opinion that good performances against higher ranked sides will bring in more spectators to the venue for the matches.
"We are focused on winning the tournament. We will give our 100% and I'm sure that if we give a good performance, more and more fans will come to the stadium to cheer. I have heard the stadium is very good. I'm looking forward to seeing it for myself too,” said the 23-year-old footballer.
