EPL Round Up | Leicester City hold Chelsea as Tottenham thrash Everton

Chelsea’s barren run in front of goal continued for the third consecutive game as they failed to score against Leicester City, squandering the chance to go second on the table. Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways as they thrashed Everton 4-0 with Harry Kane becoming their record goalscorer.

Chelsea 0-0 Leicester City

Chelsea aren’t having the best of runs when it comes to scoring. After drawing stalemate against Norwich City in FA Cup and Arsenal in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg, the Blues were frustratingly held at home by Leicester City on Saturday. The Foxes looked quite dangerous in the first half attempting as many as 12 shots on goal with Chelsea hardly looking lethal. However, their dominance had to end in the second half when defender Ben Chilwell saw a second yellow in the 68th minute for fouling Victor Moses.

But, the Blues failed to take an advantage of a 10-man opponent and the mercurial Eden Hazard was seen taken off early after failing to make any clear-cut chances whatsoever. Marcos Alonso tried a late resurgence from the free-kick that was deviated away by Kasper Schmeichel, which was the closest Chelsea got to the goal. The Blues now sit third level on points with Manchester United while Leicester are eighth.

Huddersfield Town 1-4 West Ham United

The Hammers extended their unbeaten streak in the Premier League to four games on Saturday as they ran riot over promoted side Huddersfield Town with a 4-1 win. Despite the hosts making a more lively start with their attacking trio of Rajiv van La Parra, Tom Ince, and Lolley looking a genuine threat, it was the London club who drew first blood in the 25th minute with Mark Noble scoring from a defensive mistake by Joe Lolley following Lossl's short goal kick.

Though Lolley soon made amends for it with a superb curling effort past Adrian in the 40th minute, Marko Arnautovic ensured that the Terriers didn’t get to capitalize on it. The Austrian scored 30 seconds into the second half as he got at the end of a Cheikhou Kouyate pass to restore the lead for West Ham. He turned provider ten minutes later as Manuel Lanzini increased the lead to two goals and take the result beyond doubt. The pair combined again after ten minutes for the final goal as the game ended 4-1.

Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Everton

Despite not having the best of starts in the first half, Spurs managed to go a goal up as Son Heung-Min scored in the 26th minute from a Serge Aurier cross after Everton’s defence failed to deal with a Christian Eriksen free-kick. Though Everton equalized soon after going behind through Wayne Rooney, who converted from new signing Cenk Tosun’s flick, it was adjudged offside.

However, the Lilywhites didn’t leave anything to fate in the second-half as Harry Kane scored twice in the 47th and 59th minute. The first one came following a lovely interplay with Son, while the second one was a low cross by Eric Dier, as Kane became Tottenham's all-time leading goal scorer. The icing on the cake was provided by Eriksen who latched on to a subtle back heel by Dele Alli to make it 4-0. Spurs are now level with Liverpool on 44 points as Everton remain ninth.
