Reports | Dravid refuses BCCI’s 5 Cr bonus for equal payout to support staff
Recent reports suggest that India's former head coach Rahul Dravid has denied a bonus of INR 5 Cr from the BCCI for winning the T20 World Cup. Abiding by his principles, the Indian legend suggested that the prize money for the triumph should be equally distributed among the support staff.
However, the Indian outgoing coach was willing to take INR 2.5 Crore home, similar to other support staff of the winning team.
He did a similar act during the 2018 U19 World Cup when the governing body rewarded him with INR 50 Lakh for his stature. The Karnataka-born had reduced the price to INR 20 Lakh, similar to the support staff.
“Rahul wanted the same bonus money ( ₹2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff (bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip and batting coach Vikram Rathore). We respect his sentiments,” a BCCI source said as per Hindustan Times.
Dravid was appointed the Indian team head coach in 2021 with Sourav Ganguly as the BCCI President then. Under his stewardship, the national team reached greater heights, becoming the Asia Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024 Champions.
