UAE captain Mohammed Naveed, who was suspended by the ICC on Wednesday, after being charged with breaching their anti-corruption code, accepted that he let his family and friends down with his actions. Besides Naveed, Qadeer Ahmed Khan and Shaiman Anwar Butt were also charged by the ICC.

Four charges — two each for breaches of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code and Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Code — have been brought against Naveed in relation to attempts made to corrupt the upcoming T20 World Cup qualifiers and in the UAE T10 League.

“Now this has happened, I feel guilty. Why did I not talk to the board, why did I not talk to the ICC? It is my mistake, and I feel guilty. My family is let down, my friends are let down. Everybody is let down. This was my mistake,” Naveed told The National.

“I am very sincere about my game, I am very sincere about my career. I have been successful for the UAE around the world, in leagues, for franchises. That is because I am very sincere about my game,” Naveed added.

Naveed was charged with breaches of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code Article 2.1.1 and Article 2.4.4 with regard to the T20 Qualifiers. He has also been charged by the ICC on ECB’s behalf — the Designated Anti-Corruption Official for the purposes of the ECB — for breaches of the ECB Code Article 2.1.1 and Article 2.4.4.
