Australian Open | Leander Paes and Sam Stosur knocked out in round two

Paes, along with Australian great Sam Stosur, suffered a heartbreaking second-round exit to fifth-seed pair of Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah. The Indo-Australian pair opened the game promisingly with a 6-4 win in the first set to take the lead. However, things spiraled downwards from there on as Groenefeld and Farah won the next match by the same margin and the match went into the tiebreaker round. The third set went into a tiebreak which saw the German-Colombian duo register a 10-8 win over Paes and Stosur and sealed their exit.

Earlier, the veteran Indo-Australian pair had beaten Dutch-Czech duo of Wesley Koolhof and Kveta Peschke in the round of 32. The 45-year-old also suffered a first-round exit in the men's doubles event with partner Mexican Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela. Apart from Paes, India’s Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and his partner Nicholas Monroe were also knocked out in the opening round of the event.
