Australian Open | Leander Paes and Sam Stosur knocked out in round two
Leander Paes, along with partner Sam Stosur, bowed out in the second round of the ongoing Australian Open in the mixed doubles category after suffering defeat Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah. The Indo-Australian duo lost the match by a scoreline of 6-4. 4-6, 8-10 to their fifth seed opponents.
It’s been a disappointing start to the year for Indian tennis professionals as every Indian participating at the ongoing Australian Open has been knocked out of the tournament before the third round. After Rajkumar Ramanathan, Divij Sharan, and Rohan Bopanna, the latest Indian to exit from the season’s first Grand Slam is veteran double’s specialist - Leander Paes.

Earlier, the veteran Indo-Australian pair had beaten Dutch-Czech duo of Wesley Koolhof and Kveta Peschke in the round of 32. The 45-year-old also suffered a first-round exit in the men's doubles event with partner Mexican Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela. Apart from Paes, India’s Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and his partner Nicholas Monroe were also knocked out in the opening round of the event.
