Indian Golf Round-up | Poor start for Shubhankar Sharma, Gaganjeet Bhullar, SSP Chawrasia at Scottish Open
Shubhankar Sharma, Gaganjeet Bhullar and SSP Chawrasia were off to a very poor start on the first day of the ASI Scottish Open golf championship. On the other hand, Arjun Atwal and Anirban Lahiri had a perfect start to their campaign on the first day of the John Deere Classic on Thursday.
Shubhankar Sharma registered an even par 71 and finished at T-114 on the first day of the competition at the Renaissance Club, while Gaganjeet Bhullar and SSP Chawrasia also failed to impress under the perfect scoring conditions on the Day 1 of the Scottish Open. Bhullar was one-over through 11 holes and Chawrasia was also one-over with only three holes left.
No one other than England’s Andy Sullivan, Scotland’s Jamie Donaldson, Finland’s Kalle Samooja and South African Thomas Aiken managed to finish their first round at seven-under.
“I hit a flyer on eighth and on ninth, a longish (199-yard) Par-3 I missed the green and did not make the up-and-down,” Sharma was quoted as saying by PTI.
Arjun Atwal, at the John Deere Classic, had a great start to his campaign as he moved to three-under with 15 holes. However, after not having a great start, Anirban Lahiri bogeyed sixth and 10th and had no birdies to end the first day.
Scotland’s Martin Laird was the leader at seven-under with two more holes remaining. At the opposite sides of the course, Andrew Landry and Austin Cook were both six under after 15 holes.
