Jeev Milkha Singh believes that Shubhankar Sharma needs to make most of US Open opportunity
While accepting that the US Open is a tough event, Jeev Milkha Singh has suggested Shubhankar Sharma sort his strategies and make the most out of the opportunity. Shubhankar was selected at the qualifiers, held at Brookside GCC and Lakes Golf and Country Club, where he was tied fifth.
Shubhankar has shown his fierce persona as a player and after some brilliant performances on the tour, he played at Masters on a special invite. Earlier he earned himself a spot in the Open championships at Carnoustie after he won Joburg Open. However, he will need to remain rooted in the top-100 to be eligible for the PGA Championships.
Jeev mentioned that even with his fearless attitude and determination, Shubhankar will need to explore his opportunities well.
“A lot of bogeys are waiting to be made but he will need to take it in his stride and move on. The strategy will be to play conservative golf and get aggressive when needed, and the young man will be aware that he needs to make the most of this opportunity as he looks to seal his playing rights on the PGA Tour for next season,” Jeev wrote in his column for the Hindustan Times.
Jeev Milkha Singh has highly appraised the player and believes he has all the right qualities to succeed.
“We have a saying on Tour, which goes, ‘let your clubs do the talking’."A silent assassin, Shubhankar Sharma has done just that by qualifying for the US Open. Perhaps missing cut at last week’s Memorial (Tournament on the PGA Tour) was a boon as it left him more determined.
“I reckon the US Open as the toughest Major but Shubhankar has the right qualities to succeed. He is patient, handles himself well and gives it his best at every shot.”
