PKL 2019 | Coach and team have never let me feel pressure of being main raider, reveals Shrikant Jadhav
UP Yoddha’s Shrikant Jadhav has revealed that his coach and teammates have never let him feel the pressure of being the main raider in the squad. It was Shrikant’s Super 10 and a High 5 from skipper Nitesh Kumar that helped UP Yoddha beat the home side Haryana Steelers 37-30 at Panchkula.
In what was a tightly contested game, one or two key moments are what shifts the balance significantly in favour of one side. In Match 111 of the PKL’s seventh season, Shrikant’s 10-point raid and Nitesh’s 5-point defence is what took the match away from the third-placed Steelers. Although he is the main man in the squad, Shrikant is thankful for his skipper who soaks up as much pressure as possible.
“The coach and the team have never let me feel any pressure. The coach has told me to play to the best of my ability. I think the captain has taken the pressure upon himself instead of letting it come to me,” Shrikant was quoted saying at the post-match press conference by the Pro Kabaddi official website.
”We just execute what the coach tells us to do. The coach and the captain have told me to play freely because if I play well, then the team is more confident as well. I hope this streak continues and we keep doing well in our upcoming matches as well,” Shrikant added.
Heading into their home leg, the side from UP has gathered some steam with six wins in their last seven games. However, coach Jasveer Singh is fully aware that they need to keep the run going in their next four clashes as well in order to seal a spot in the playoffs.
“With our home leg coming up, we were hoping to gather some momentum. We are close to sealing our spot in the top 6 now so this victory was very important for us. Our plan was to win this match come what may and the team delivered,” Jasveer said.
