PKL 2019 | Best 7 of Jaipur leg ft. Maninder Singh, Anil Kumar and Amit Sheoran
The Jaipur leg saw some breathtaking actions on the mat and it was a phase in which some of the lesser-known players came to the party. Players like Siddharth Desai got back to form with back-to-back performances while Amit Sheoran, Vishal, and Saurabh Nandal starred in their team’s defence.
Maninder Singh, Raider, Bengal Warriors
Bengal Warriors skipper was in top form in the two matches that his team has played in the Jaipur leg. Bengal won both the matches against Jaipur Pink Panthers and Telugu Titans by close margins and on both the occasions, Maninder had led the team from the front with some amazing raids. He will definitely be the best raider of the leg considering his performance having positive outcomes in both the matches. After scoring 19 raid points against the home team Jaipur Pink Panthers, Maninder went on to get 17 points against Telugu Titans.
Pardeep Narwal, Raider, Patna Pirates
Most of the time Patna Pirates skipper Pardeep Narwal finds a place in the Best 7 of the leg but the performance of his team used to be something different. The situation this time is no different. With 17 and 19 raid points in two games, Pardeep becomes a part of the combined team. However, his tremendous show in the raiding unit was not enough for the Pirates to win the matches against Haryana Steelers and Dabang Delhi KC.
Siddharth Desai, Raider, Telugu Titans
This is probably the first time in the season that the Kolhapur lad has found a place here. It has been a great season for many raiders and Desai came to the party a bit late this season. Siddharth starred in the last game of the Jaipur leg against the home team to beat the Pink Panthers by a huge margin of 20 points last evening. The Telugu Titans raider, who has got the nickname of ‘Bahubali’ also had a great evening against Bengal Warriors a few days before at the Swai Man Singh Stadium where he collected 15 points from 16 attempts. So, out of the two, the one against Jaipur is more special as he made Sandeep Dhull, the best defender of the tournament, his bunny at the left corner.
Anil Kumar, Left Cover, Dabang Delhi
Delhi will have a sigh of relief with a few days to go for the playoffs as their left cover defender in Anil Kumar has finally started to give good performances on the mat. He had two very good games against Bengaluru Bulls and Patna Pirates and played a crucial role for the team in the tie and the win respectively. After collecting four points from six tackle points against the defending champions, he also got four against the Pirates. Anil was the best defender among all others in the two teams in the game as it was a great day for the raiders.
Amit Sheoran, Left Corner, Bengaluru Bulls
Amit Sheoran had a great day at the office in the game against Dabang Delhi. A match, which was termed as the battle between the two top raiders Pawan Sehrawat and Naveen Kumar, saw Sheoran stealing the limelight with a top performance at the left corner where he collected six tackle points from seven attempts and the most important one was against Naveen in the last raid of the game where the Bulls defence played a high line and stopped the raider from crossing the baulk line. Sheoran effected an ankle hold and tackled Naveen to ensure that the game end in a tie. That match-changing moment and three points against U Mumba got him a place in the combined team here. His performance was more important considering the fact that the Bulls played with a new cover combination of Ankit and Ajay.
Vishal, All-rounder, Jaipur Pink Panthers
After the first home game and the performance of the defence, Jaipur must have felt that they are in a good space of doing well at the home venue. Although that didn’t happen but the game gave them a new star in the defence and he is Vishal. The all-rounder played at various positions in the game and collected nine points from seven attempts in the game and that included three super tackles as well. He also had a good time at the left corner position whenever Sandeep Dhull had a poor time at the same position in the leg. He ended the leg with 14 tackle points from four games at home for the Pink Panthers. He will find a place in the team as an all-rounder ahead of Vijay who is more or less used as a raider and had turned the game in Delhi’s favour in their previous outing against Patna Pirates.
Saurabh Nandal, Right Corner, Bengaluru Bulls
I was in a dilemma regarding whom to get for the right corner position as most of the players at the same position were not that great for various teams. Abozar Mighani had a super 5 and so was Saurabh Nandal for the defending champions in the last evening of the leg against U Mumba. Nandal had failed to make an impact against Dabang Delhi in which his partner at the other corner Sheoran starred. However, against Abhishek Singh and co., he came up with five tackle points in the game and played an important role in the win for them which took them to the fourth position on the table.
