Patna Pirates’ coach Ram Mehar Singh said that Jang Kun Lee came through for them in yesterday’s match as he played the role of the second raider efficiently. Patna Pirates won their last evening with a scoreline of 33-36 against Jaipur with the win, Patna jumped to 9th spot on the points table.

Patna Pirates persisted against a resilient Jaipur and emerge victorious in a match that was neck-to-neck in the first half even after Pardeep Narwal's three point raid. Despite being pushed to only three players halfway through first half Jaipur Pink Panthers avoided an all-out till the 28th minute thanks to three super tackles. When the all-out did happen Patna was lagging behind by three points. The match came down to the last few raids were Patna had an advantage as two of their raiders were in form, unlike Jaipur. Pardeep Narwal and Jang Kun Lee did continuous raids and with touch and points gained a 3 point edge over the Panthers.

“The lack of a second raider will hurt any team. In the close matches that we lost, I felt that the presence of someone as experienced as Jang Kun Lee would have made a difference for us. And today he proved that. Every time we needed points, Lee came through for us today,” Patna coach Ram Mehar Singh said in the post-match press conference.

In defence Neeraj Kumar shone as he scored 6 tackle points and he was well supported by Jaideep who scored 3 tackle points but apart from these two there wasn’t much of a contribution from the others. The raiding department worked phenomenally as both Pardeep and Lee performed well. Pardeep scored 14 raid points whereas Lee complimented him well by scoring 8 raid points.

“When Pardeep (Narwal) knows that Lee is on the mat and if he is tackled, there’s someone who can revive him quickly, it helps him raid without any pressure. So today we did not feel that we lacked a raider, like we did in the past few matches,” Singh explained.

Patna has till now scored 30 points with 5 wins in 15 matches, this win helped them jump for the bottom to the 9th spot and they will be hopeful for a win upcoming matches as well so that they could reach the Top 6.

“The raiders were excellent and I hope they can continue in the same vein. Pardeep is obviously a star, but Lee is an experienced campaigner. He’s been in the league since its inception and he’s represented his country in many international tournaments. So having a player like that is obviously a huge advantage. The defence needs to perform better. We had them pegged down to a sole man or two at least five to six times but ended up giving away multiple points. That is an area we need to address,” Singh signed off.
