PKL 2019 | Defence conceded points at vital junctures against Bengaluru Bulls, says Jasveer Singh
After losing the first eliminator against Bengaluru Bulls, UP Yoddha coach Jasveer Singh admitted that the UP defence gave away points at crucial moments in the match and that affected them. Jasveer also credited Pawan Sehrawat for the Bulls’ win and saying that they are a champion team.
It was the first time in PKL history that a game went into extra time after a tie and UP Yoddha had to be on the losing side after the Bulls put up a great effort towards the end of the six minutes of extra time and booked a place in the semis. After the scores were tied at 36-36 after 40 minutes, the Bulls played well in the extra time and took the game 48-45.
UP’s coach Jasveer Singh didn’t look happy with his defenders after they lost the battle against the Bulls. However, he mentioned that it was a great game for the spectators as it went all down to the wire on Monday.
“It was a good match for the spectators but not for us since we lost. The defence has been playing so well but it conceded points at vital junctures today,” Jasveer said during the post-match press conference.
“If our defence had not made mistakes when they did, we would have definitely inflicted another All Out and could have had the match in the bag. I had a lot of trust in the defence but they let us down tonight and that cost us.”
Pawan Sehrawat was the top scorer from both the teams as he ended up with 20 raid points from 25 raid attempts on Monday. Jasveer hailed Pawan’s performance and also admitted that the Bulls are a champion side and making mistakes against Pawan was not affordable for them.
“It was a tight match. Bengaluru Bulls is a champion team and Pawan Sehrawat is one of the best raiders in the league. We could not afford to make any mistakes against him. The errors our defence made is the main reason we lost,” the UP coach explained.
UP skipper Nitesh Kumar registered a high five against the Bulls but that went in vain as he was not able to take his team through. He also shared that the idea for the UP defence was to play defensively and the players tried as hard as it was possible for them.
“The strategy was to play defensively and not make mistakes by playing too far ahead or making advanced tackles. That is what the coach told us, and we tried to follow that as much as possible,” the right corner defender mentioned.
