PKL 2019 | Tips for being a successful raider
Kabaddi is an extremely gripping and nail-bitingsport. Every minute packed with action makes the game extremely thrilling to watch. Though the game seems quite straight-forward and effortless, it takes a lot of skill and technique on the part of the raiders and defenders to master it.
A team should concentrate on both these aspects to emerge victorious. Defence is more a collective effort, whereas raiding is an individual effort. Although a raid lasts for about 30 seconds, there is a lot of strategizing that goes on in the mind of the raider. According to me, here are a few tips one must keep in mind to execute a successful raid:
•Mastering your moves: In Kabaddi, it is a one-man show for raiders as they have to face the defenders single-handedly. It becomes necessary for raiders to master their techniques so that they have an upper hand and keep defenders at bay. There are a number of moves in Kabaddi like the hand touch, toe touch, scorpion kick, frog jump, dubki, etc. Each of these moves requires a certain level of skill, precision and flexibility to execute it effectively. It is also important to use these tactics at the correct time as the defenders are waiting to take down raiders at the slightest of errors.
•Make a mental plan of the attack: After entering the opponent’s court, the raider must study the situation and take a call accordingly. Focus is of utmost importance as defenders keep changing their positions according to the raider’s footwork. Making a mental plan of the path of the attack is required in order to be successful.
•Be swift and quick: Defenders are always on the lookout to grab the raider and strike at the correct timing.Even a slight lapse can cost the raider a point. Therefore, quick movements help to keep defenders on their toes during the game. The raider needs to escape with lightning speed to avoid being tackled and score a point for his team.
•Fitness is extremely crucial: Having an athletic body is important for every sport. Especially in Kabaddi, one needs to be flexible and agile to dodge the defenders. Building strength, power and endurance are also fundamental necessities for players. One needs to be extremely disciplined and follow a rigorous fitness routine.
•Concentration is the key: The raider should have a single-minded focus and not get distracted by the opposition defenders. In tense and crunch situations, it is very easy to get carried away by their aggression. One needs to be extremely vigilant and calm, to be able to strike at the correct time. The raider should not be hasty else it would lead to a loss of points for the team.
