PKL 2019 | Puneri Paltan name Surjeet Singh captain for season 7
Surjeet Singh has been named as the skipper of the Puneri Paltan side ahead of the seventh edition of the Pro Kabaddi League which will begin on July 20. The Paltan will take on Haryana Steelers in their first game of the tournament on July 22 at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad.
After leading Bengal Warriors in the last edition of the league, ace defender Surjeet Narwal will take up the same responsibility in the Pune-based franchise for the seventh season. The announcement was made by the club on their Instagram account on Wednesday. Surjeet will look forward to turn the tables for the franchise in the upcoming season of the popular league which will kick start in Hyderabad on July 20.
“I am humbled by this decision of the management. I would like to thank Anup sir and Kailash sir for showing the faith in me and giving me this responsibility. This is my second stint with Puneri Paltan after season 3 and with comeback nothing is better than getting an opportunity to lead the team. Under Anup Sir’s guidance, we have been training extensively to give our best performance for the league and we are all ready to set the mat on fire,” Surjeet expressed after he was named the skipper.
The Paltan had named Anup Kumar as their coach ahead of the auctions and had gone into the auctions without retaining a single player in Elite Player Retention. However, the team from Maharashtra went ahead to bring experienced players like left defender Girish Ernak and raider Nitin Tomar in the side at the auctions held in April.

Ernak was the skipper of the Paltan in the sixth edition of the league in which the team failed to reach the playoffs from Zone A. They finished below Gujarat Fortunegiants, U Mumba and Dabang Delhi KC on the points table after the league stage. On the other hand, cover defender Surjeet led Bengal Warriors to the playoffs in the last edition.
“Surjeet is a valuable asset to the team and he will definitely drive the team towards glory. He has an experience of leading the team and I have faith that his leadership capabilities will take us a long way in this season. With the current squad and a leader like Surjeet, I am confident that this season we will put up a stellar show,” coach Anup explained after the announcement.
