PKL 2019 | We'll draw a lot of confidence from today's performance, says Edacherry Bhaskaran
Tamil Thalaivas coach Edacherry Bhaskaran said that his team will draw a lot of confidence from their performance for the upcoming encounters, they tied their match 31-31 against Puneri Paltan last night. He also appreciated the way raider Rahul Chaudhari and V. Ajith played in the match.
This was Thalaivas second home game and they are yet to taste victory as they lost the previous match tied this one, this was their second tie out of the eight matches they have played so far in the league. Tamil Thalaivas started strong as Rahul Chaudhari got his first point in the first raid where he got Girish Ernak. The Thalaivas were all-out soon but they made a quick comeback and finished the first half with only a two point deficit.
“We'll be playing against two excellent sides (Jaipur Pink Panthers and U Mumba). We'll draw a lot of confidence from today's performance and try to play to the best of our abilities,” coach Edacherry Bhaskaran said in the post-match press conference.
In the raiding department Rahul Chaudhari and V. Ajith did well and contributed equally to the team’s score as they both scored 8 points each. There was a point in the last minutes of the second half where Thalaivas were four points behind and at the verge of an all-out and Ajith was the only man standing. He went in on the raid and scored bonus plus three points making it a Super Raid and saving the team from an all-out as well as reviving the players. So, Ajith contribution was a very crucial one.
“Rahul Chaudhari was brilliant from start to finish. I chose to sub V Ajith Kumar in because I had no choice and it worked out in our favour. Rahul played with a chip on his shoulder and was extremely responsible in how he went about his business,” coach Bhaskaran explained.
In defence Manjeet Chillar wasn’t able to play the match due to a hairline fracture but the team didn’t miss him much as both Mohit Chillar and Ran Singh did well together. They scored seven points combined as Ran Singh missed his high five by a single point.
“From the position we were in towards the end, it’s a good result,” coach said on being asked if he was happy with the result.
Though skipper Ajay Thakur didn’t go for many raids, when he did go across the line he did he was stopped 50% of the times. The only point of concern for the Thalaivas is a consistency of their two main raiders as Rahul and Ajay haven’t performed well together in a single match.
“Nothing special. It’s the team's victory that matters. My individual stats aren’t something that I think about. I’m happy that we managed to get a tie. (Going forward) I'll work on my strategy in Super Tackle situations,” Rahul Chaudhari commented on his performance.
