PKL 2019 | Our sole motive is to perform well in home leg, says Edacherry Bhaskaran
Tamil Thalaivas coach Edacherry Bhaskaran has said that his team is going into the home leg with a positive mindset and with the hope to perform well. The Thalaivas will play the first match of their home leg against Bengaluru Bulls in the Southern Derby at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Saturday.
Tamil Thalaivas, till now, have won three, lost two and tied one of their matches and seemed to be in a good form. Each and every member of their team has contributed till now and coach Edacherry Bhaskaran is hoping that the team will do well and they will rise on the leaderboard. The Thalaivas' home leg will start today in Chennai and their first game will be against Bengaluru Bulls.
“We are walking into the home leg with a positive outlook with the sole motive to perform well,” coach Edacherry Bhaskaran said in a press conference.
The team is led by Ajay Thakur who did well in the last match and guided his team to the win with a super raid and a total of nine raid points in the match. Along with him, the raiding unit also has ‘Raid Machine’ Rahul Chaudhari who looks to be in great form heading into the home leg. He has scored 47 points in the six matches they have played till now.
“In the last two years, I was the only main raider, so there was a lot of pressure. This year, I have the likes of Shabeer (Bappu) and Ajay shouldering the responsibility with me. Hence, I am enjoying my game now.” Chaudhari expressed.
The team seemed to be a balanced one with the likes of Ran Singh, Manjeet Chhilar and Mohit Chillar in the defence who have done well till now. Manjeet is currently second on the defenders' leaderboad with 26 points. The two matches that Thalaivas did lose were with a single point difference against Dabang Delhi (29-30) and Patna Pirates (23-24).
“We have made mistakes and learning from them the team is working to make sure we have a great season. The team is practicing well, and we are working on a balanced team to complete the home leg on a high note.” coach Bhaskaran explained.
The player who has been playing consistently in the team and has not done that well is Shabeer Bappu as he has scored only 13 points in six matches. He will hope to do well and get more points so that he can ease the pressure off Thakur and Chaudhari in crunch situations during their home leg.
"We are excited to play before our home crowd and hope to produce good results," Bapu signed off.
