PKL 2019 | Learned from last season’s experience, says Abhishek Singh
U Mumba's emerging raider Abhishek Singh believes that his performance in this is season is a result of the experience he gained from the last edition where he scored a total of 53 points in 15 matches. Abhishek has showcased mixed performance since the super 10 that he scored in the first match.
U Mumba has struggled to win most of their matches this season as they are not able to perform as a unit. Their defence seems scattered as it is able to perform in some matches and not able to come up with good shows in others. They have had some strong individual performances and have shown great character. Their raiding department doesn’t seem to be as strong as last season but the young raiders are determined to comeback well.
In their first match of the season, Abhishek Singh came as a surprise package and scored a brilliant super 10 and since then the expectations from him have only grown.
"I learned from last season's experience. Also, the fact that I am with the same team and environment helped me improve my raiding skills," Abhishek told TOI.
He was with U Mumba in previous season as well where he scored 53 points in 15 matches as a support raider for Siddharth Desai who starred for the team led by Iranian defender Fazel Atrachali.
"I gave a lot of emphasis to fitness this season and have really put in my 100 percent in every match," the 20-year-old said.
After the first match’s performance, his average score in successive matches was of five points. There is a lot that is expected of him and his coach and skipper would rely on him to lead the raiding unit and make them win matches."He has exceeded our expectations this season, he appears to be a quick learner and has put in a lot of hard work," said U Mumba chief coach Sanjeev Kumar Baliyan.
"Abhishek is an extremely fit and strong raider. This season he seems to be coming into his elements and that is a big advantage for our team. He is always very calm on the mat and that is a great skill," U Mumba skipper Fazel Atrachali mentioned.
