After an impressive second-place finish at CWG the Indian Hockey team is keen on making up for the disappointment of the 2018 FIH World Cup in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The Indian team will go up against England, Spain, and Wales in Group D in the FIH Odisha Hockey World Cup Bhubaneswar-Rourkela 2023.

2023 Hockey World Cup co-hosts Rourkela will get a Rs 600 crore development facelift as part of the Smart City programme. Odisha's Sports Director Vineel Krishna has confirmed that most of the development costs will be covered by corporate companies, instead of using taxpayer money.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, the three Indians who have applied for the post of the hockey coach of the men’s team don’t have required qualification for it. As per the eligibility criteria of Hockey India, a national team coach should have at least level 3 qualification.

Former India men’s hockey coach Harendra Singh has opened up against Hockey India citing the biasness over the payment made to him for the role of the chief coach. Harendra was asked to step down from his position after India failed to make it to the semi-finals of the previous World Cup at home.
