It is essential for Indian hockey team to have consistency, believes Dhanraj Pillay
Dhanraj Pillay has stated that it is essential to have consistency in the Indian hockey team to achieve the desired result and they should focus on that. The former India skipper has also added that he wants to dedicate his entire life to the sport of hockey and its development in the country.
The Indian team after winning the FIH Series Finals, now aim at the FIH Olympic Qualifiers which will be held later this year and will be the last qualifying event for the upcoming Olympics next year. The Indian team is practising hard for the same under the guidance of coach Graham Reid who joined the Indian team in April this year. India will play the Olympic Test Event in Japan and go for a tour to Europe before the qualifying event.
Former India skipper Dhanraj Pillay is if the belief that the Indian team need to be consistent enough in the upcoming events to do well in the near future.
“I believe that it is essential to have consistency in the team and that is what the players in these tournaments should focus upon,” Pillay was quoted as saying by PTI.
The 51-year-old former Olympian and former India spinner Nilesh Kulkarni interacted with school children in Odisha’s Sundargarh district in which the hockey player said that one should not get discouraged after losing the Hockey and Cricket World Cups.
“We need not get discouraged because we could not get the Hockey and Cricket World Cup,” Pillay explained.
Speaking about his life after retirement from competitive hockey, Pillay said, “Politics is not for me. I am a born hockey player and will continue to remain so, dedicating myself to improve hockey."
