Harendra Singh: Taking full responsibility for the Indian women's team is an honour
India’s newly appointed women’s hockey coach Harendra Singh expressed his happiness and stated that taking full responsibility for the team is an honour for him. He also believed that the players will deliver their best to earn a rightful spot in the national team.
Recently, Indian hockey faced many changes as Sjoerd Mrijne, chief coach of India women's team was selected as the new chief coach of the India Men’s senior hockey team. He will take the position of Roelant Oltmans who was sacked by Hockey India last week. On the other hand, former Indian hockey player Harendra Singh is all set to take charge of the women’s team.

In April 2015 Harendra was appointed as the coach of the junior men’s team to groom them for the 2016 World Cup and under his guidance, the junior team won the title. Now, he is ready for the new role and talked about his upcoming plans.
"With my staff, I now look forward to working with this talented group of players. We will concentrate on providing the team with the best possible environment and opportunities, in return we expect our players to deliver and take their rightful spot at the top."
Harendra played 43 games for India from 1985 to 1991. He started his coaching career in 1998, and coached the teams for the Sydney Olympics (2000), World Cup (2005-Jr, 2006 and 2010), Asian Games (2006 and 2010), Asia Cup (2004-Jr and 2009), Champion's Challenge (2009) and various other tournaments.
"My sole objective is to share with the women's team what I already experienced with the junior men's team. I know we can walk that road again. This is not a repeat but a new journey!" he added.
