Paulo Dybala confirms that he is set to leave Juventus at end of 2021/22 season
In a statement, Juventus forward Paulo Dybala confirmed that he is set to leave the club at the end of the current season as a free agent after negotiations over a new contract broke down. The 28-year-old signed for the club nearly seven years ago and has made 291 appearances during that time.
When Juventus signed Paulo Dybala in the summer of 2015, there was a lot of hype and excitement that arrived alongside the Argentine and he lived up to his potential. However, despite netting a consistent stream of goals for the club, Dybala has failed to thrive over the last few years. That is largely because the forward was hit by COVID-19 twice and has since struggled to find the same level of performance he had pre-COVID.
But that hasn’t stopped the 28-year-old from scoring, with Dybala netting 20 goals over the last two seasons for the Old Lady. However, after reports indicated that the 28-year-old was set to leave the club as a free agent, nothing was confirmed by the club although that has now changed. Dybala confirmed the rumours and revealed that he is set to leave Juventus at the end of the current season. He admitted that it has been “seven magical years” and he thanked the fans for supporting him during that time.
"It is difficult to find the right words to say bye to you. There are so many years and so many emotions altogether. I thought we would have stayed together a few more years but destiny has led us down different paths. I will never forget everything you gave me; every match, every goal. I have grown up, and learnt with you. I have lived a dream,” Dybala wrote on his social media accounts.
"It has been seven magical years with 12 trophies and 115 goals that no one can ever take away. Ever. Thank you for supporting me during the difficult moments. Thank you to those who have been with me these years: from the first to the last, from fans to the those within the club, everyone, managers and team-mates, staff and directors.
“Wearing this important shirt alongside the captain's armband has been one of the proudest moments of my life, which I one day hope to show my children and grandchildren. Tomorrow will be my last match with this shirt, it's difficult to imagine but it will be our last goodbye. It won't be easy but will step onto the pitch with a smile and my head held high, knowing I gave everything for you."
