Inter Milan sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan on free-transfer to reported two-year contract
In a statement, Inter Milan have confirmed they have signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a free transfer after the Armenian’s contract with AS Roma expired at the end of last season. The 33-year-old spent three years at the Stadio Olimpico, making 117 appearances and winning the Europa Conference League.
After he thrived for Borussia Dortmund, a lot was expected from Henrikh Mkhitaryan but the Armenian struggled to impose himself in the Premier League. That is despite playing for both Manchester United and Arsenal with the attacker contributing to just 27 goals in 73 appearances. That combined with Arsenal taking a step in another direction, saw Mkhitaryan leave for Italy and the now 33-year-old showed his quality for Roma in the Italian top tier.

Find OutHowever, with only one year left at the start of the 2021/22 season, many expected the Armenian to extend his time with Roma but instead, the club confirmed that Mkhitaryan was set to leave. But while he was rumoured to be considering retiring, Inter Milan have confirmed that they have signed the 33-year-old on a free transfer. The statement didn’t confirm how long the 33-year-old signed for but reports have indicated that Mkhitaryan has a two year deal in place.
“Armenia, France, Brazil, Ukraine, Germany and England: there have been many stops on his way to Italy. He spent three campaigns at Roma, making 116 appearances, scoring 29 goals and winning the Conference League,” reads the statement.
“From his house in Valence and now to Milan, Henrikh is making another stop on his journey. As he embraces the Nerazzurri colours, with his Armenian heritage, we are reminded of another Inter great, Youri Djorkaeff.”
