Really happy with Arsenal's performance to win London derby, exclaims Mikel Arteta
Mikel Arteta has revealed that he was impressed with his side’s performance in their victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge as they look to make a strong end to the season and secure a top-four spot. The Gunners claimed a 4-2 victory over arch-rivals Chelsea on Wednesday in the Premier League.
Arsenal travelled to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday in a bid to solidify their bid to secure a Champions League place at the end of the season and the Gunners started the contest brightly and made their dominance count as Eddie Nketiah scored the opening goal of the contest in the 13th minute. Chelsea responded quickly though as Timo Werner equalized in the 17th minute through a deflected effort.
But while Emile Smith Rowe finished off a brilliant counter-attack to retake the lead in the 27th minute for the Gunners, Cesar Azpilicueta equalized for the Blues five minutes later with a cool finish. Nketiah restored the away side's lead in the 57th minute as he capitalized on a mistake by the Chelsea backline to slot the ball home. The European champions tried hard to find an equalizer but ultimately Arsenal was the side that scored next as Bukayo Saka rifled home a penalty in 90+ 2 min.
It saw Gunners boss Arteta praise his side and he admitted that the victory will boost their chances of securing a top-four spot at the end of the season.
“I think it will help because it gives you confidence and belief you can do it on the biggest stage, away from home against the top teams in this league. Hopefully they can believe more in themselves. What I love is the spirit of these players. When you lose matches, you get punished, you get criticised but for these players I don't care because it's so worth it. They are phenomenal people and as a group they are really growing. To win a London derby away from home and how we did it, I am really happy,” Arteta told Sky Sports.
