RB Leipzig manager Julian Naglesmann has revealed that despite interest from across Europe in Dayot Upamecano, he will not be leaving Leipzig this summer. The 21-year-old is one of the best young defenders in the world, which has seen Manchester United, Barcelona and a few others linked with a move.

Over the last few years, Dayot Upamecano’s reputation has shot up, with the 21-year-old now considered to be one of the best young defenders. The Frenchman has matched up that hype with his performances for RB Leipzig in both the Bundesliga and Champions League, especially last season, as the German side reached their first Champions League semi-finals. However, while they eventually fell short, few have forgotten Upamecano’s performances along the way, with interest in the young defender reaching it’s peak this summer.

Reports have indicated that the German side have had enquires from Spain, England and even Germany, with a slew of Europe’s bigwigs interested. But with Upamecano signing a contract extension, tying him to Leipzig until 2023, it has seen interest in him dissipate although Manchester United are still considering a move. Yet the 21-year-old won’t be leaving with Julian Naglesmann asserting to that fact in a recent interview. The RB Leipzig boss confirmed that the starlet will stay at the club this season although things could change next summer.

"He will be here for the season. I'm sure about that. As for the future, I'm not sure as he is very talented. Lots of club will want to buy -- perhaps next season it could be real that he leaves the club. But this season he will stay. It is normal when you work with young guys that clubs will try and find young talented guys in the transfer market," Nagelsmann told ESPN.

“It is normal that bigger clubs will try and buy these players. You have to deal with that, you've got to be one step forward when you buy new players or find new players. Our scouting should be good and we have made a lot of good decisions in the transfer market."
