SAFF U-18 Championships | India colts thrash Sri Lanka 3-0 to enter in semis
The India U-18 football side was on top form on Wednesday when they dominated a strong Sri Lanka side by beating them 3-0 at the AFP Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal, in the ongoing SAFF U-18 Championship. The Blue Tigers had Gurkirat Singh scoring a brace while Aman Chetri struck late.
Both the teams had started strongly to begin with with the half-line score reading 0-0 as both the team went into the tunnel. However, it was seemingly the half time talk that did the trick for the Indian colts, who saw Gurkirat Singh striking in the 65th minute after a melee in the box.
After the score was opened, India didn’t have to look for confidence as Singh and Aman Chetri continued their song by adding two more and take the match beyond doubt with an unassailable lead. By this win, which was in their last group stage match, India have now entered the semi-finals of the tournament
“It was good to get the win and gain some momentum. But none of these goals and this win matters unless we win the SAFF Championship,” said Head Coach Floyd Pinto, reported AIFF.
“Our aim is to win the SAFF Championship and the boys produced a much better performance against Sri Lanka and we look forward to even better performance by them. We wanted to put up a better display of performance and score as many goals as we wanted. And we owed this performance to ourselves,” he added.
