David De Gea is inching closer to signing a new deal with Manchester United and is set to earn around the same as Red Devils’ star Paul Pogba. The 28-year-old’s current deal has less than one year left on it and that does allow him to negotiate a pre-contract deal with any foreign clubs in January.

David De Gea is said to be close to signing a new long-term contract with Manchester United, reports the Guardian. The goalkeeper has less than a year left on his current contract with the Red Devils, which does allow him to sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside England from January 2020. This does cause a few problems for the Old Trafford side, although reports have linked them with moves for Jan Oblak, Alexandre Nubel and even Andre Onana.

However, the Guardian does report that De Gea is close to signing his new and rather lucrative contract, which will see him earn somewhere around £290,000-a-week. That puts him alongside Paul Pogba as one of the club’s highest earners, with Alexis Sanchez out on loan. The Spaniard, however, has been linked with a move to Juventus and even Inter Milan, although any new deal will effectively put an end to the rumours.

De Gea signing new deal would also mean that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s has managed to convince yet another player to stay. The Norwegian’s top job at Manchester United is reportedly to keep players at the club, with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford both signing new long-term deals recently. That was after Solskjaer reportedly convinced Juan Mata, Scott McTominay, Andreas Pereira, Ashley Young and Phil Jones to sign deals before the start of this season.
