Manchester City have declined two offers for Phil Foden from AS Roma and the Rangers, despite Foden keen on the move. The Cityzens have made it clear that the English midfielder is not for sale and neither will he be allowed to leave on loan, with Guardiola keen on nurturing Foden’s talent.
Manchester City have faced enquiries for Phil Foden from Rangers and Roma, with both sides keen on a loan move. According to The Mirror, the Cityzens have taken a strong stance that the midfielder will not be sold or even sent out loan. Last year, the 19-year-old had his breakout season, where he went on to make 26 appearances for the club in all competitions, helping City secure a domestic treble.
It saw Foden’s market value skyrocket across Europe, but the youngster is still finding it difficult to break into the first-team this season. Kevin De Bruyne's return from injury and the arrival of Rodri has limited the youngster to just two brief appearances off the bench. This limited involvement prompted Rangers manager Steven Gerrard and Roma manager Paulo Fonseca to make late inquiries about the player, with Pep Guardiola himself admitting that he has rejected offers for Foden.
The Spaniard believes that the English international has the potential to do great things, but Guardiola has also revealed that Foden needs to be more assertive if he ever wants to become a top-class Premier League player.
