Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would consider stepping down as the manager if he felt it was in the club’s best interests. Solskjaer faces one of his biggest tests on Sunday as his side prepare to face league leaders Liverpool, who are in blistering form, at the Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces a tremendous amount of pressure ahead of Manchester United’s clash against Liverpool and the Red Devils could find themselves in deep waters if they fail to get a result from the game. The Norwegian manager brought in some good positive results, after the club's displays under Jose Mourinho, winning 14 out of 19 games as the caretaker manager.

However, once Solskjaer's appointment became permanent the results and team balance started to fade with the Red Devils only managing to win 6 of his 21 games as the permanent manager. The Manchester club has managed to pick up just 9 points in 8 games but that means this is their worst league start in 30 years causing anger and disappointment among supporters.

There have been debates on whether Solskjaer should remain at the helm or not and the Metro has reported that the club legend would consider stepping down if its in the club’s best interests. The bare minimum expectation from the former Molde boss was to guide Manchester United back to the top four and the UEFA Champions League but looking at the current scenario the chances of fulfilling that prospect is highly unlikely.

However, chairman Ed Woodward has roped in support for Solskjaer and he admitted that the board has confidence in the manager. Woodward also added that the entire club will work together in tandem to help get Manchester United back to the top. Ed Woodward played a monumental part in making Solskjaer the permanent manager. He was the one who pursued the board to give Ole a 5-year contract just after 19 games in-charge instead of waiting till the end of last season.

The Old Trafford club cannot afford to dismiss another manager having 5 managerial changes since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. The board remains hopeful that Solskjaer will improve things through his vision and techniques and he has always vouched for a long term plan. That has impressed the board more than anything and reports indicate that they believe in his long-term plan.

The 46-year-old remains determined to turn the things in the club’s favour but knows it won’t be an easy ride. Sources close to Solskjaer believe that he would rather choose jump out of the ship before he’s pushed and would genuinely consider stepping aside if he felt he was not the best man for the job.
