Marc Andre Ter Stegen and Nelson Semedo have two years left on their contract but Barcelona is working hard to hand them new deals with increased wages AS reports. The German shot-stopper has established himself as a fan favourite after exceptional performances for the club since his £12 million move from Borussia Monchengladbach, while Nelson Semedo was more of a squad rotation player. But the full-back has now established himself as a first-team star under manager Ernesto Valverde.
The report from AS added that the new contract will see Ter Stegen earn a huge wage rise based on performance, as a recognition of his exemplary professionalism and to ward off danger from any other rival club. It will also increase his release clause from £90 million to an. Ter Stegen has been phenomenal in saving Barcelona’s defence and finished last season with 23 clean sheets in 51 games in all competitions. Meanwhile, Semedo was close to leaving the Spanish champions last summer when Atletico Madrid enquired about the Portuguese right-back.
But he ended up staying at Barcelona and was given enough chances with the team to prove his talent. The Portuguese international has managed to carve out a consistent rhythm with manager Valverde having used him extensively ahead of Sergi Roberto at right-back. That reports AS has seen his agent Jorge Mendes successful in asking Barcelona to improve Semedo's wages and his contract.
