Delhi Dynamos have announced the signing of highly-rated Senegalese international Diawandou Diagne ahead of the start of the 2019 season. The 24-year-old defensive midfielder has earlier been part of the Barcelona B squad in the past.
“I have played in Europe amongst some of the best in the world, and I am eager to bring all my experience on the field here in India,” Diagne Tweeted after formalizing the deal.
Born in Thies, Diagne moved to the Doha-based ASPIRE Academy at the tender age of 13. After four years with them, the youngster then joined Belgian second division side Eupen in 2012.
In his debut season, Diagne made 32 appearances for the Belgian club. The midfielder’s stellar performances in the league earned him a contract with Barcelona in 2014, where he featured regularly for the Barca B side in the Segunda division. In fact, he was even drafted into the main squad for a Copa del Rey tie against SD Huesca but remained on the bench for the game.
On the international stage, Diagne has played for the Senegal U-17 and U-20 national teams. The defensive midfielder made his senior team debut in 2014 in a 2-2 draw against Colombia.
