AFC Cup | Chennaiyin FC focused on getting all three points against Minerva Punjab, says CK Vineeth
Ahead of their AFC Cup group encounter against Minerva Punjab FC, CK Vineeth has said that the team is focussed on getting all three points from the game which will be played on Wednesday. Coach John Gregory has heaped praise on his players for showing “first-class professionalism”.
Chennaiyin FC have a target of making it to the knock-out stage of the ongoing Asian Foootball Confederation (AFC) Cup. To seal the berth in the knock-outs, they will want to beat another Indian club Minerva Punjab FC in their group encounter on Wednesday. Both the Indian sides will meet in Guwahati and Vineeth has stated that the Tamil Nadu-based team is focussed to secure all three points from today’s match.
"You might say we had a break (after our last game in May), but we actually didn't. Before we went away, we were given this big handbook on fitness and conditioning by our team. And we have ensured we stay fit and in shape. We are focused on getting all three points tomorrow (against Minerva) and inching closer to the knockout round," said CFC's CK Vineeth was quoted as saying by PTI.
The ISL side is at the top of the points table in the group. With seven points from four games, Chennaiyin are above Abahani Limited Dhaka because of a better head-to-head record. Gregory stressed on the importance of the two back-to-back away games of the former ISL winners with respect to the qualifications for the knock-out round.
"The mood is very good in the camp. We have two important games coming up against Minerva and Manang (Marshyangdi) in Nepal. The professionalism that my boys have portrayed is first class. And they are all aware of the task at hand. What is great is that it is in our hands. We control our destiny," said CFC head coach John Gregory.
"If we win our two remaining group matches, we 100% qualify for the knockout round. And if that happens, it will be a huge achievement for everyone associated with the club.”
