After days of speculation, Kerala Blasters have finally roped in last season’s NorthEast United FC star Bartholomew Ogbeche after the striker parted ways with the club last week. Ogbeche’s signing looks more like a priority signing by the Blasters’ new coach Eelco Schattorie ahead of the new season.

If there has been a club, who has been really proactive this transfer window, it has been Kerala Blasters. After a disastrous 2018-19 season, which saw the club changing two managers and finishing second from bottom with just 15 points, it seems that the management is leaving no stones unturned to get back to contending days next season.

After they roped in Schattorie from the Highlanders and Mario Arques from Jamshedpur FC, they have now secured the services of 34-year-old Ogbeche, who ended last season with 12 goals. A major highlight of Ogbeche last season was his sensational 10-minute hat-trick against Chennaiyin FC and Blasters would be hoping the striker extends his momentum into the next season.

Having previously played in English side Middlesbrough, the striker has the experience and quality to remain consistent and could also be handy when not scoring.

More than Ogbeche’s scoring prowess, it would be Schattorie’s presence that would be the icing on the cake for the Kerala Blasters fans. Starting more than a decade back with French side Paris Saint-Germain, Ogbeche has plied his trade in top divisions of France, Spain and England, among others.
