Subrata Paul given three weeks to present his case before NADA
National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), on Wednesday, have revealed that Subrata Paul, who tested positive for a banned substance in March this year, had been allotted 3 weeks to present his case before the panel. NADA will come to a decision after the hearing on how to proceed with the matter at hand.
Subrata Paul's 'A' sample tested positive of Terbutaline which is a banned substance on the World Anti-Doping Agency list. NADA failed Paul in the test as the former Indian captain had not applied for any Therapeutic Use Exemption as per the norms.
Navin Agarwal cleared the consequences of failing the dope test.
"The substance does not require immediate suspension and the athlete is free to play till the panel makes a decision," Agarwal told Reuters.
"Paul is free to play as the substance features on the specified list of prohibited substances. He did not get his sample 'B' tested which was well under his rights."
The 30-year old has also cited the consumption of cough syrup as a reason for testing positive for the substance.

Paul was the first choice goalkeeper for the Indian team until Gurpreet Singh Sandhu replaced him in the role. Paul has played for various clubs in his illustrious career and is also the winner of the prestigious Arjuna Award. He contributed heavily to India's victorious 2007 Nehru Cup campaign.
