Watch : Player gets sent off after being fouled by the referee himself
Shortly after English referee Mike Dean was criticized heavily for his decision to send off Sofiane Feghouli against Man United in the Premier League, Portuguese football saw a bizzare scenario where FC Porto's midfielder Danilo was sent off after the referee himself crashed into the player.
Even before the storm of criticism surrounding Premier League referee Mike Dean for his error in sending off West Ham's Sofiane Feghouli calmed down, there was yet another shocking video of a refereeing error making rounds around Europe.
In a strange situation in Portugal's Cup (Taca da Liga) tie between FC Porto and Moreirense FC on Tuesday, Porto's defensive midfielder Danilo was caught off guard when the referee Luis Godinho crashed into him while walking backwards.
Danilo, who was already booked once during the match, managed to stay on his feet and was utterly shocked when the referee decided to show him a second yellow for obstruction, thus sending him off the pitch. Danilo, winner of Euro 2016 with Portugal, expressed his dismay at the decision by posting a video on his Instagram account in which he said:
“I have seen and reviewed the footage more than a hundred times and I honestly cannot understand the criteria this gentleman used to make such a decision. I’ve watched many incidents in football but this was undoubtedly the most shameful!”
Frankly speaking, this is even worse than Mike Dean's decision.
