Indian Premier League 2023
With a massive fan following, RCB has always been a huge draw among the teams in the IPL. The Bangalore-based franchise made its debut in the Indian Premier League in 2008 and has since then featured some of the biggest names in world cricket, including AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, and many more players. The team has always been in the headlines because of the players that they had over the years and still failing to win the IPL title even once. As a team, Royal Challengers Bangalore has the most loyal fan base as even after 14 years of not winning an IPL TItle, their fans still support them with the same amount of love and affection.
In 2008, Vijay Mallya, the owner of United Spirits made a successful bid of $111.6 million for the Royal Challengers Bangalore team. During that time, this was the second-highest bid made by any owner for an IPL team. United Spirits comes under Diageo which is a British multinational beverage alcohol company and has headquarters in London.
However, in 2016, Vijay Mallya resigned from the post and since then, several CEOs and Chairman have been appointed. But still, the fans have always supported the team through these tough times. For the fans, players like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell, and Yuzvendra Chahal will always hold a special place for them in their hearts. But now, with the retirement of AB De Villiers and the release of Yuzvendra Chahal, the fans will be hoping to get some more good players in the auction. Currently, the team has been a perfect combination of experienced and young players which means that the team can get their hands on the title in the upcoming years.
The brand value of Royal Challengers Bangalore has always been up because of players like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammad Siraj present in the team. Currently, the brand value of the team is ₹ 536 Cr. However, the brand value of the team has been mainly affected because of the Covid-19 pandemic as the IPL was played behind closed doors and thus fans had to watch the matches from their home. Though, it is expected that in 2023, the brand value of the team will rise if they manage to get quality players in the IPL Auction.
In the last 14 years of IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore has not won even a single IPL title but still have made it to the finals in three seasons. In 2009, 2011 and 2016, they were too close to winning an IPL trophy. Now, let’s look at how they have performed over the years.

Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle were in beast mode in that season but their bowling led them down. In the Finals, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated them by 8 runs and won the title.
The IPL 2017 season was the worst season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore as they finished at the lost spot in the points table for the first time in IPL history. They played 14 games and were able to win only 3 of them. They lost 10 games and one ended up with no result and thus they were not able to make it to the playoffs after a great 2016 season.
The 2018 season was another disappointing season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore as they finished at the sixth position in the points table and were not able to make it to the playoffs. They played 14 matches and won only 6 matches which resulted in just 12 points and thus they were knocked out of the playoffs race. In that season, they lost 8 matches to other teams.
The IPL 2019 season was a cut-copy-paste of the 2017 season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore team as they finished at the last spot for the second time in the history of the IPL. They played 14 matches in that season and were able to win only 5 of them and lost the other 8 matches. This season was disappointing for the players and the fans of the team.
The IPL 2020 season saw Royal Challengers Bangalore making it to the playoffs for the first time since the 2017 season but still they failed to win their maiden IPL title as they lost against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the eliminator. In that season, they played 14 matches during the league stage and won 7 of them which resulted in the team being at the fourth position in the points table.
The IPL 2021 season also ended up without Royal Challengers Bangalore lifting up their maiden IPL title as they again made it to the playoffs but were not able to make it to the Finals of the season. In the eliminator, they lost against Kolkata Knight Riders and were out of the tournament. In the league stage, they finished at the third position as they won 9 matches out of the 14 that they played.
In the IPL 2022 Season, the Royal Challengers Bangalore team came out with a new captain as they appointed Faf Du Plessis for the captaincy duties. Moreover, Virat Kohli played as a player and had one of the worst tournaments of all time. But other players like Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik, Josh Hazlewood, and Shahbaz Ahmed supported the team well and hence they were able to make it to the playoffs for the third time in a row. But they got defeated by Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 and hence were knocked out of the tournament.
Royal Challengers Bangalore might have a vacant trophy cabinet. But with the players that they had, the team has never been short of entertainment. Players like Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, AB De Villiers, Anil Kumble, Mitchell Starc, and many more have played for the team. For the team, it will be important to win the championship in the next year as they have some quality players who will be giving their best to get the trophy. Moreover, with the return of AB De Villiers as the leading coach of the group, the players will be pumped up to give their best and hence to get the trophy for the first time. Even the leadership of Faf du Plessis will be tested heavily and hence he will be having some big responsibility on his shoulders to get the team back to their best in the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League.
