Lehmann dumps BBL duties to prioritise Commentary gig
Former Australian cricketer Darren Lehmann announced his sudden resignation from his roles with Brisbane Heat and as an assistant coach for Queensland. His tenure concluded due to the acceptance of a commentary offer from an Australian Broadcasting Corporation in the lead-up to Aussie Summer.
Under the southpaw’s stewardship, the Queensland Bulls won the Sheffield Shield title in the 2011-12 season. He led the Brisbane Heat to their maiden BBL title the next year. Right after, he doned the head coach’s role for the Australian Cricket team from 2013-2019 before returning back to the Bulls for a head coach stint. Two years later, he stepped back to the assistant coach’s role for the same unit.
“I’ve had a great time over the journey, with so many fond memories from that time. I wish nothing but the best for the future for all at QC (Queensland Cricket) and the Heat and thank each and every member of staff and the playing group for making my time at QC so enjoyable and fulfilling,” the 54-year-old said.
With a busy Australian calendar on the cards, Lehmann is all set to make his mark in the radio commentary realm with ABC.
Australia are set to square off against India in the Border Gavaskar Trophy starting November 22 in Perth. The caravan will shift to Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and lastly Sydney in a five-match action-packed series. The hosts are yet to win a home series against the Men in Blue since 2014.
