IND vs BAN | Yash Dayal earns maiden call-up as BCCI announces squad for first Test against Bangladesh
The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 16-man squad for the first Test against Bangladesh at the M. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Uttar Pradesh pacer Yash Dayal earned his maiden national call-up with Rohit Sharma set to lead the Men in Blue starting September 19.
In another heart-warming news, Dayal earned his maiden national call-up to the Test team. He has scalped 76 wickets from 24 First Class games for UP at a bowling average of 28.89. He bagged four-wickets in the recent India versus India B clash in the Duleep Trophy with a three-fer in the second innings. His left-arm angle will be key in the fast bowlers mix of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep.
In another debacle for the No. 5 batting spot, both Sarfaraz Khan and KL Rahul will have to ply their trade to prove their mettle ahead of India’s packed red-ball calendar. While Rohit Sharma is likely to open with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill is likely to get an extended run at the No. 3 position despite his poor numbers in the England series back in March.
Also, Ravindra Jadeja retained his spot in the Test squad following his omission in the ODIs against Sri Lanka. Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin are other spin-bowling all-rounders in the squad.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, are yet to announce its squad for the forthcoming series. They are riding on confidence after inducing a whitewash against Pakistan at their backyard.
India’s squad for first Test against Bangladesh: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Yash Dayal.
