Like Batman's butler Alfred once famously espoused, it's not how we fall that defines us, it's how we get back up again. Venkatesh Iyer was left screaming in agony after an off-target throw struck his leg as he tumbled down, only to eventually recover and smash Jasprit Bumrah all around the park.

Kolkata Knight Riders adopted a no-holds-barred approach on a seemingly tricky track at the Eden Gardens on Saturday after spells of rain curtailed their encounter against Mumbai Indians to 16 overs per side. Despite losing both openers within the first seven balls, the hosts went past the 50-run mark in just the sixth over largely on the back of Venkatesh Iyer's stunning stroke-making with the batter unbeaten on 30 while striking at 200-plus. However, it was not all smooth sailing for the KKR veteran as the 29-year-old at one point seemed to be at risk of leaving the field on a stretcher before eventually shunning all doubts with a resplendent comeback.

On the second ball of the third over, Shreyas Iyer dabbed a ball to point and called for a quick single even as the fielder got to the Kookaburra in jiffy. Nevertheless, his namesake's long limbs ensured Venkatesh got to the crease in time with his bat outstretched but the effort was not enough to save him from the throw that came in as the white rock thumped into the back of his thigh. The lanky all-rounder immediately let go of his bat to clutch his hamstring with agony writ large all over his face before limping for a couple of moments and hurtling himself down to the ground. KKR's medical team immediately rushed in to tend to the injury and after an extended delay, Venkatesh managed to return to his feet to face an on-song Bumrah.

Much to the crowd's pleasant surprise, Venkatesh smacked two boundaries and a brutal maximum across the next four balls, thus subjecting Bumrah to a rare 15-run over. Twitterati was all praise for the all-round entertainment and lauded Venkatesh's effort even as he continued to limp for the rest of his knock.
