Cricket is one of those rare sports where the playing conditions matter a lot in dictating the nuances of the game. While the drop-in pitches in New York have been under constant scrutiny, Quinton de Kock’s dismissal off Tanzim Hasan Sakib’s bowling spurred further debates on demons in the pitch.

Unlike any other captain, Aiden Markram decided to bat first under tricky conditions in the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium as South Africa squared off against Bangladesh. While Reeza Hendricks continued with his lean patch, getting trapped in the first over, Quinton de Kock seemed unfettered and charged the opposition bowlers until a jaffa from Sakib. 

Having already smashed a couple of sixes and a four in ten balls, de Kock intended for yet another big stroke before a good length delivery got the better of him on the third ball of the third over. Sakib came around the wicket with a widish angle and dished the white rock into the southpaw who got beaten on the inside edge while attempting a hard-hand heave. The ball kept a tad low and crashed onto the top of the off stump as de Kock failed to judge the low elevation after a sporadic rising delivery in the previous one. 

The fact that a wide delivery before the dismissal gained a steep bounce after hitting one of the cracks in the pitch raised questions on the quality of the drop-in strip, thereby sending the Twitterverse into a buzz.
