IPL 2024 | Twitter lauds Pant-Axar brilliance as Delhi outmuscle Gujarat in last over thriller
Delhi Capitals beat Gujarat Titans by four runs with a formidable total of 224/4 garnered on the back of Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel's half-centuries. Despite fifties from Sai Sudharsan and David Miller, Gujarat's lack of partnerships and some great bowling from Delhi led to a three-run defeat.
The hosts' jubilation persisted in the second innings as well with the dismissal of Gujarat's opener and captain Shubman Gill in the second over. Yet, Wriddhiman Saha and Sai Sudharsan countered effectively, crafting a solid 60-run partnership to lift Gujarat's score to 67/1 by the end of the powerplay. With the required run-rate nearing 12.25 by the ninth over, the pair encountered difficulties finding boundaries as Delhi's Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav exhibited some great bowling. Additionally, Saha departed in the 10th over while Sudharsan reached a fifty off 29 deliveries. However, Gujarat's batting trembled a bit after Azmatullah Omarzai was dismissed in the 11th over by Axar. With David Miller and Sudharsan at the crease, Gujarat's scorecard read 109/3 after 11 overs. Unfortunately, Sudharsan's innings came to an end in the 13th over after an impressive display of 65 runs off 39 deliveries. The misfortune continued for Gujarat as Shahrukh Khan fell in the 15th over leaft the Titans at 140/5 after 14.2 overs. With 73 runs needed from the final four overs, Gujarat Titans found themselves in desperate need of a miracle after Rahul Tewatia's quick dismissal. However, a glimmer of hope emerged as the Proteas star shifted gears dramatically, smashing 24 runs in the 17th over to notch up a spectacular half-century off just 21 balls. Regrettably, his innings came to an end in the 18th over, leaving Sai Kishore and Rashid Khan at the crease. The momentum swung in favour of the visitors as the Tamil Nadu spinner and Rashid Khan combined to plunder 18 runs in the 19th over. With Kishore departing, the Titans required 19 runs from the final over. With great determination, the Afghan all-rounder Rashid Khan struck two consecutive boundaries off Mukesh Kumar's first two deliveries. However, the Indian pacer staged a remarkable comeback ny conceding just seven run off the last three deliveries as Delhi Capitals clinched a thrilling victory by four runs.

good score courtesy
#DelhiCapitals made a good score courtesy Pant, Axar and Stubbs but it doesn't seem like a winning one due #DC's poor bowling and fielding. It will be a shame if they lose this one. #DCvsGT

Most expensive
Most expensive spell in IPL now belong to Mohit Sharma. 73/0. Over takes Basil Thampi's 70/0. #DCvsGT

Gamble
Gill turning to a spinner to bowl his first over in the 19th was a gamble that failed miserably @gujarat_titans #DCvsGT #IPL2024
