In cricket, outcomes aren't solely determined by umpiring decisions, but they can certainly alter the game's trajectory. A similar situation unfolded during the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders, where an obvious no-ball was given out by the on-field umpire.

Choosing to bowl didn't pay much dividends for Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis as they clashed with Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. Kolkata's openers, Phil Salt and Sunil Narine smacked 55 runs in just four overs putting immense pressure on RCB's bowlers. However, the visiting team found a glimmer of hope when they managed to dismiss the dangerous opening duo of Salt and Sunil Narine during the powerplay. Yet, Kolkata couldn't capitalize on their strong start, losing Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh quickly without contributing much to the scoreboard. At 137/5 in 13.1 overs, Andre Russell strolled to the crease, only to face an unusual situation on his first ball.

During the 14th over, RCB's Lockie Ferguson delivered a high full toss to the West Indian all-rounder. Expecting a different line, Russell adjusted his position slightly and attempted to cut the ball. Unfortunately, he only managed to edge it, leading wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik to pull off a great catch. Meanwhile, Karthik and the Kiwi speedster erupted in celebration as on-field umpire Akshay Totre signalled Russell out.

However, confusion ensued when Russell questioned Totre's decision, pointing out that the delivery was above waist height, constituting a no-ball. Promptly, Russell called for a review, gesturing to leg-umpire Vinod Seshan. With swift intervention, TV umpire Michael Gough reviewed the footage confirming that the high full toss indeed exceeded Russell's waist height by a huge margin. Consequently, Totre revised his decision ultimately awarding it a no-ball.

The incident sparked outrage on social media with the Twitterverse expressing frustration over the umpire's erroneous call igniting widespread discussion online.
