If all of Test cricket is like this it's going to be very exciting, asserts Jofra Archer
Jofra Archer has stated that he needed some time to reflect on what had happened in the last few days of his life and attested that Ashes is something that kept Test cricket alive. However, he further added that his personal highlight would have to be England's World Cup victory at Lord's in July.
The last few months have been quite some time in Jofra Archer's career as after making his ODI debut for England in the Pakistan series, he played a major role in England winning their maiden World Cup on home soil. If that not enough, he played a huge part in England's Ashes campaign where he picked as many as 22 wickets at 20.27 in the team's 2-2 draw in his maiden series against Australia. In hindsight, he savours some of the incredible days as an England cricketer and said that his first taste of Test cricket this summer has given him enough appetite for future engagements.
"I need a few weeks to actually sit back and reflect on what's happened, but from the moment I pulled an England shirt on it's been amazing, from the first game to Sunday," he said.
"I've never played another Test series, so I don't know how the next one will feel … I actually didn't know when the next one was! For me, I take every game like it's a final, an Ashes. It's the same approach, nothing changes. I'm still taking it all in. It's my first Test series either way, but if all Test cricket is like this it's going to be very exciting."
The World Cup final became extra sweet for the guy from Barbados as it culminated with Archer's nerveless Super Over to seal the final at Lord's against New Zealand, and the memories of that achievement still stood out. That, of course, set things up for Ashes, where he made a partnership with Stuart Borad to put relentless pressure on Australia. On being asked to pick the bigger achievement among the duo, Archer picked the former.
"I guess [it has to be] the World Cup. But Test cricket and one-day are two different feelings and both of them are very special. I'm over the moon to level the series, and make sure they didn't win it. I can't put it into words, both are very special to me.
"It's been good, having pressure from both ends. We bowl similarly, it's pretty intense, the battle to get the left-handers out! It's great, even the other guys who have bowled. It doesn't really matter who opens, everyone has the same goal, everyone just wants to win."
