Sri Lanka set to tour Pakistan for two-match Test series in December
After facing a crushing 3-0 T20I series defeat at the hands of second Sri Lanka side, Pakistan are now set to host Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series in December this year. The two Test matches, to be played in Rawalpindi and Karachi, will come under the ICC World Test Championship.
After comfortably winning the three-match ODI home series 2-0 against Sri Lanka, Pakistan fared terribly in the T20Is, losing all three against the visitors. Despite all kinds of security concerns and other safety-related speculations, Pakistan were able to successfully host the Lankans in the recently concluded limited-overs series. Even though 10 leading Islander cricketers opted out of the series, the tournament turned out to be an enjoyable one.
And now, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has proposed a Test series schedule to the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), starting from December 11. The second Test, in Karachi, is proposed to be scheduled on December 19. The PCB has selected Rawalpindi and Karachi as the venues for the Test series. However, the final decision on the materialising of this proposal hasn’t been taken yet.
Meanwhile, players and officials of SLC have been content with the security arrangements in Pakistan. If Sri Lanka do decide to tour Pakistan for the said Test series, it will be interesting to see whether the senior players participate or not. And Azhar Ali will take up captaincy duties for Pakistan in Test whites.
