It was a disappointing day for both Tamil Nadu and R Ashwin, as the unbeaten TN lost the rain affected final while Ashwin not only failed to perform but also is under the risk of losing his match fee. He potentially breached the clothing regulations by flaunting BCCI logo on his helmet in the final.

It was a disappointing end for Tamil Nadu as the unbeaten side of the tournament was finally slain as they lost the final by 60 runs via VJD method to Karnataka. They had a shaky start and even half-centuries from Abhinav Mukund (88) Baba Aparajith (66) couldn't take them to fighting score.

They lost their opener Murali Vijay (0) in the first over and that's when skipper Dinesh Karthik thought of springing up a surprise as he sent Ravichandran Ashwin up the order. But the tall off-spinner failed to make an impact as he was dismissed for only 8 but in the course of his 13-ball innings, he did potentially breached the clothing regulations of the BCCI by sporting the board's logo on his helmet in the domestic match.

According to a  BCCI functionary, it was the discretion of the match referee, Chinmay Sharma, on whether he will fine the spinner or not, but the rules say he can be fined for breaking the clothing regulations of the board.

"The clothing regulations clearly say that you have to tape the BCCI logo if you plan to use the same helmet in domestic matches like the one you wear while playing for India. The match referees, as well as players, have been briefed about the same over the years and if someone is guilty of committing the mistake, he can be fined by the referee," the functionary told IANS according to an India Today report.

The other international players featuring in the final abided by the regulations as both Mayank Agarwal and Murali Vijay played with tapes on the logo while KL Rahul chose to wear a helmet without the logo.

The highlight of the Tamil Nadu innings was the first hattrick in the final of Vijay Hazare trophy. The Karnataka pacer Abhimanyu Mithun prized the wickets of Shahrukh Khan (27), M. Mohammed (10) and Murugan Ashwin (0) in the final over of the Tamil Nadu innings to achieve the feat and limit TN to a chasable score of 252.
