Vijay Hazare Trophy | Yuvraj Singh launches scathing attack on BCCI for lack of reserve day
Legendary Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has taken to Twitter to lash out at the BCCI for lack of reserve days for knockout matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Punjab were knocked out from the tournament after rain washed out their quarter-final match, meaning Tamil Nadu automatically progressed.
On Monday (October 21), controversy erupted in the ongoing edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy after both Mumbai and Punjab were unceremoniously knocked out of the tournament due to rain playing spoilsport. With both teams chasing relatively small targets and cruising en route to comfortable wins, heavy rains in the state of Karnataka brought both matches to a halt and no further play was possible in either encounter, meaning the teams that had more wins in the group stages progressed by default.
As a result, both Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh progressed to the semi-finals, while Punjab and Mumbai were left red-faced, having to swallow the hard pill of exiting the tournament without having a fair shot at winning it. After Mandeep Singh and Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter to express their disappointment over Punjab's unfair exit, legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is now the latest to do so, with the former Punjab man lashing out at the BCCI for not having a reserve day for the competition.
"Again an unfortunate result for Punjab against TN in the Vijay Hazare tournament, again Punjab cruising and game abandoned due to bad weather, and on points we don’t go to semis ! Why don’t we have a reserve day? Or is it domestic tournament it doesn’t really matter ? @BCCI" Yuvraj tweeted, questioning BCCI's seriousness when it comes to domestic tournaments.
After finishing sixth last season, Punjab finished second in the group stages this season, winning five and losing just two matches. While the BCCI are yet to comment on this matter, it is to be noted that all teams knew the rule beforehand, thus complains about the happenings of Monday might come out as nothing but sour grapes.
